Meet Eleanor – Tram Technician

I like the variety in my role, there’s always something different to manage. The callouts on faults keep things interesting, the exams keep me learning, and it’s great to know I’m helping to keep the network moving. Meet Tony – Engineering Team Leader

I’ve worked at Metrolink for several years now in a variety of roles. Through my time here, I’ve developed into an experienced Engineering Team Leader looking after a team of around 10 engineers. We work together to ensure that the trams are maintained and that the fleet is ready for service. There’s always room to grow and develop at Metrolink, whether that’s into a new role, or if you just want to become better at your job.

Meet Nathan – Digital Signal & Telecoms Team Leader

We are a 24 hour operation looking after the signalling and telecommunication on the network. The thing I love most about my job is that you can see the difference you’re making on a regular basis. When there is an issue and something needs fixing, it is very satisfying to know that we get the network back up and running.

Meet Joanne - Stores Assistant

I work in the engineering stores team on the depot, where I keep everything moving behind the scenes. From receiving deliveries, checking stock, ordering essential equipment and materials, I make sure teams across the business have the resources to carry out their roles safely. I also work closely with suppliers to maintain accurate stock records to contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of depot operations.

Meet Yifan – Asset Information Officer

Since joining KAM’s Asset Management team in 2024, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from experts across the business how Metrolink’s iconic light rail network is operated and maintained. My role focuses on improving and automating Asset Management processes, helping the engineering teams work more efficiently and make better use of real time information. Working alongside engineers and colleagues across the business, I contribute to keeping our network safe, reliable and ready to connect thousands of people every day across Greater Manchester.

We offer a wide range of engineering roles across the Metrolink network, all playing a vital part in keeping Greater Manchester moving.

Permanent Way (P-Way) Maintainer

Our P-Way teams keep the network on track. They inspect, maintain and repair the tramway infrastructure, helping to identify potential issues before they become problems and ensuring trams can operate safely and efficiently.

Tram Technician

Our Tram Technicians maintain, inspect and repair our fleet of trams from our depot workshops. From scheduled maintenance to fault finding and repairs, they help ensure our vehicles are safe, reliable and ready for service every day.

Signalling & Telecommunications Technician

Our specialist engineers maintain the systems that keep our network running smoothly. From signalling equipment to communication systems, they use their technical expertise to ensure trams move safely and reliably across the network.

Facilities & Network Presentation

The Network Presentation team plays a key role in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for customers every day. They take pride in looking after our two depots and 99 platforms across the network, ensuring, walkways, crossings and network assets are clean, tidy and well presented, helping to keep Metrolink looking its best. They also make sure important customer information, posters and key messages are clearly displayed for our customers, contributing to a positive experience for everyone travelling on our network.

Electrical & Mechanical

The Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) team plays a vital role in keeping the network running safely and reliably every day. Responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of critical assets, including tram stops, overhead electrical power lines and supplies, signalling equipment, ticket machines, lifts, escalators, track and depot infrastructure, the teams help keep the network moving. Working around the clock, they use their technical expertise to minimise disruption, support network performance and ensure customers and colleagues can travel across Greater Manchester.
